Matili Technical Training Institute in Bungoma County will on April 17 confer certificates and diplomas to 3,004 graduands in a ceremony that underscores the growing role of technical and vocational education in Kenya.
The institution’s Chief Principal, Judith Sande, confirmed the development, describing the graduation as a key academic milestone that reflects the institute’s expanding capacity in skills training across various disciplines.
The event is expected to draw senior government officials, education stakeholders, and industry players, signaling increased national attention on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions as drivers of workforce development.

Education stakeholders and local leaders have used the occasion to renew calls for the elevation of Matili TTI to a national polytechnic. They argue that the upgrade would align the institution’s status with its rapid growth and strategic importance in training middle-level manpower.
With a student population exceeding 10,000, Matili TTI has emerged as a major hub for technical education in the region. Observers note that such growth places pressure on infrastructure, staffing, and resources, further strengthening the case for enhanced government investment.
The planned graduation highlights the increasing uptake of TVET programmes in the country, as more learners opt for skills-based education amid shifting demands in the labour market. Analysts say institutions like Matili TTI are central to bridging the skills gap and supporting Kenya’s industrialization agenda.
