Mathioya Technical and Vocational Training Institute has partnered with a level four hospital to train nurses in internationally marketable home-based care.
The first cohort of learners undertaking their practicals at Kiria Ini Mission Hospital has been booked to work in Canada upon completion of the course.
The sentiments were expressed by Principal David Githaiga when Mathioya MP Dr Edwin Mugo launched a driving school truck procured using NG-CDF resources.
“ The institution, through the support of the MP Dr Mugo, managed to start the home-based care education marketable course, and our learners will fly to Canada once they graduate,” said Mr Githaiga.

The MP, on his part, said the institution is a source of pride for Mathioya, as it trains students from all over the country, with a focus on technical courses, and lauds the partnership with Kiria Ini Hospital to enhance the home-based care programme.
“ Before 2027, I desire to lobby for the institution to be uplifted to national status, as it has all the requirements demanded in the technical training,” said Mugo.
He added that a KMTC will be established in the Kihuro area, thus necessitating that the locals start building rental houses to accommodate the students.
