Vincent Olum, a former graduate of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, has realized his entrepreneurial aspirations by establishing Milleniam Safeguards, a security firm in Kisumu County.

Speaking during the firm’s launch in the Migosi area, Olum expressed his commitment to training security personnel and catering to various cadres, including VIP protection.

With a desire to empower idle young graduates, especially those in slum areas like Nyalenda, where he was raised, he aims to break the cycle of despair that often befalls the youth.

“Having observed the misuse of young people by politicians resulting in tragic consequences, I decided to make a difference,” Olum stated.

He further revealed that following his graduation, he faced initial despair but rebounded by securing a modest loan of 200/- from the Hustler Kitty now with a turnover of Ksh. 1.8 million.

“Millenium Safeguards plans to extend its services beyond Kisumu, covering Western Kenya,” Olum added.

In recognizing the evolving landscape of crime, he intends to invest significantly in digital security solutions.

The Member of the County Assembly of Central NyakachVincent Obuya, commended Olum’s initiative during the firm’s launch.

He urged young people to emulate Olum’s entrepreneurial spirit, emphasizing the scarcity of white-collar jobs and advocating for creativity.

“Youth should explore government lending platforms such as Uwezo Youth Funds and Youth Enterprise Funds to improve their prospects,” Obuya stressed.

With an anticipated workforce of 100 guards, the firm aims to operate in a catchment covering Kisumu County and its environs.
