Little-known Narok’s Marinwa Secondary School delivered a stunning performance to overpower Siwot Secondary School 22–7 and clinch the boys’ basketball 5×5 title during the Northern Zone Secondary School Term One Games held at Sogoo High School in Amalo Sub-county of Narok County.
Marinwa secondary school, which came into the tournament as underdogs, displayed remarkable composure and tactical discipline throughout the match.
From the opening whistle, they dominated possession, executed swift counterattacks, and maintained a solid defensive wall that kept Siwot Secondary at bay.
Their sharp shooting and well-coordinated plays left spectators impressed, as they steadily built a commanding lead that their opponent struggled to overturn.
Head coach Nehemiah Kipkorir Mutai praised his players for their discipline, unity, and teamwork, noting that their focus and determination ultimately made the difference.

He emphasized that the team had trained intensively in the weeks leading up to the competition, working on both offensive and defensive strategies.
According to Mutai, the victory was a testament to the players’ hard work, resilience and belief in themselves despite being considered outsiders.
He also lauded school principal Chris Kiptoo for his unwavering support, saying the administration’s encouragement and facilitation of training sessions had significantly boosted the team’s morale.
Mutai pointed out that such backing has created a positive environment that allows students to excel not only academically but also in co-curricular activities.
Looking ahead, Mutai expressed confidence that the side will deliver an even stronger performance at the upcoming sub-county games scheduled to take place at Rongena Secondary School.
He affirmed that the team would continue refining their skills in preparation for tougher competition.
In the girls’ competition, however, Siwot bounced back from their boys’ defeat by edging out Marinwa 12–4, avenging the earlier loss and securing victory in their category.
