Taita Taveta County KNUT branch Executive Secretary has attributed disruption of learning in schools in the region to the marauding Elephants from nearby national parks.

Speaking to Education News from Wundanyi town recently, Mr. Lennox Mshila revealed that school children cannot go to school early in the morning for fear of being attacked by the elephants who have strayed from both Tsavo West and Tsavo East National Parks.

He stated that the elephants have been seen at Kasigau, Maungu, Mbololo, Mwatate and Taveta areas in the county.

The KNUT branch Executive secretary disclosed that the elephants have also been terrorizing the local residents.

“The daily activities of residents that normally run smoothly have come to a halt due the presence of the wild animals,” Mr. Mshila added.

He urged the government to take urgent steps to return the elephants to their respective National Parks to enable school children to attend their lessons effectively.

He said the presence of the elephants have become a major threat to both school children and county residents.
