Former Chief Justice David Maraga has vowed to end corruption if elected president in the next general election, placing education reform at the centre of his agenda.
Speaking at Wote bus park during his familiarisation tour in Makueni County, Maraga noted that education and health matters are very delicate and, for that reason, they are at the top of his manifesto.
“When elected as president, I will make sure I streamline the departments by fighting corruption, which has made many dockets crumble as others mark time,” Maraga said.
Corruption Challenges Facing Education
Of late, there have been so many challenges and corruption issues facing education, including capitation, ghost schools, teachers’ unions, covers, poor infrastructure, and the CBE in hand, among many others.
He added that the corruption has even extended to public projects.
He cited examples of a class that can cost around Sh2 million but is hyped to Sh3 million, and a dam that is supposed to cost Sh5 million but is allocated Sh7 million.
“Kenya is not poor; it has been made poor by the leaders. Those of us in a position to fight for the voiceless must rise and ensure our country is safe,” Maraga said.
Education and Environmental Focus
Maraga, who is among other presidential aspirants with the United Green Movement Party, added that the party is also focusing on environmental conservation.

He noted that environmental conservation efforts will include schoolchildren from a tender age.
