St. Caroli Lwanga Maraba Senior School in Kakamega has admitted just eight Grade 10 learners this week, despite President William Ruto’s directive that all students transitioning to senior schools report without delay.
Principal Nickson Arunga said turnout has been unexpectedly low. Out of the 15 learners allocated to the school by the government, only one reported for admission, while seven others transferred from different institutions.
“Perhaps the president’s directive will help the school to get more Grade 10 learners,” Arunga said, noting that only three students had reported last week before the latest admissions. He explained that the school has been forced to admit learners even without full fees or uniforms, trusting that parents will settle later.

“When we admit them, we should feed them, which is a major challenge,” he added, appealing to the government to review the situation for better management.
The principal urged local administrators to mobilize students and ensure they report to school, stressing that admissions remain open. “Just let them come in, even if they don’t have school uniform. We have reached a stage where we shall just admit,” he declared.
