A man suspected of impregnating a 16-year-old mentally handicapped schoolgirl has been arrested in Kabumbu village, Kirinyaga County.
The 41-year-old culprit was apprehended on Monday and is currently being questioned at the Kerugoya Police Station.
The man purportedly lured the girl late last year and sexually assaulted her before fleeing.
The girl’s grandmother said that the suspect used Ksh.50 to entice her granddaughter.
“The offender lured my granddaughter with Ksh.50 on her way to school then defiled her,” she said.
The Kirinyaga Central Sub County Police Chief said that the officers had been searching for the fugitive since April when the family reported his appearance.
“After molesting the girl, the culprit fled but officers found him hiding in Karia village and took hold of him,” said Mr. Tori.
The culprit will face defilement charges.
