Man in custody over defiling standard seven girl

Police in Marani are holding in custody a man accused of defiling a primary school girl in Kisii County.

According to Nyakoe location community policing chairman Mr. Robert Muko, the suspect has been preying on the girl since the beginning of the year.

He said that the man got used to the girl since they commuted together daily as he went to his business and the girl went to Kioge Primary school. This led to the man taking advantage and sexually abusing her in his house.

“The truth resurfaced when the girl was interrogated and found pregnant,” said Muko.

He reported the matter to the police who arrested the 50-year-old man identified as Evans Nyakundi on Thursday, 6th October.

“He is in our cells for questioning and to assist in our investigations,” said a police officer.

They assured residents that the suspect shall be arraigned in the court of law to answer to the charges.

Kisii County Commissioner Allan Macharia condemned the act and called for speedy serving of justice for the girl.

“We have to deal with child abuse cases ruthlessly in accordance to the law and the rights of our children,” he said.

He further appealed to the community to report child abuse suspects amongst them  to their Chiefs and the police to curb the vice.

The incident took place barely a day after a similar one occurred at Borabu Constituency in Nyamira County where a Deputy head teacher at St Andrews Kahawa Primary school was caught pants down defiling a standard seven pupil.

He was arrested and taken to Nyansiongo police station to record a statement and detainment while awaiting completion of investigations.
