Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi has pledged to help reconstruct two schools affected by floods and Cyclone Hidaya in her constituency.
Madunguni Secondary School in Kakuyuni Ward was completely submerged in water after River Sabaki burst its banks following heavy rainfall while Karima Primary School roof was blown away by strong winds suspected to be Cyclone Hidaya.
Students of Madunguni Secondary School are being hosted at Madunguni Primary School since the former is still inhabitable.
Speaking during the official handing over of bursary cheques to public and private schools at the Malindi Deputy County Commissioner’s office, she said that already they are rebuilding the roofs which were destroyed at Karima Primary.
Mnyazi said that she would visit Madunguni Secondary to assess the damage extend and see where the students are currently housed and come up with a permanent solution.
Malindi Deputy County Commissioner David Lusava said that the national government intends to relocate the school so as to resolve the problem of perennial disasters.
Daniel Kamau, Principal of Madunguni Secondary, said that the situation was bad and they were given a temporary place at the Madunguni Primary where they pitched tent and appealed for help to enable learning to resume normalcy.
