Malindi authorities set to return teenage mothers to school

Authorities in Malindi sub-county, Kilifi County have begun a crackdown to re-enroll all girls who dropped out of school due to early pregnancies.

Speaking to Education News in his office in Malindi town recently, Shella Location Chief Nicodemus Mwayele lamented that many school girls in the area were out of school due to the pregnancies and early marriages.

He said that the prevailing situation was worrying and had raised a lot of concern among education stakeholders in the area and called for concerted efforts to curb the vice.

Mwayele however warned that persons found to impregnate or marry a school girl will be arrested and charged.

“You are urged to accord the girl child’s education great attention to enhance education levels in the county,” he told stakeholders.

At the same time, he asked parents to take all their children to school saying that the county’s rapid development needed educated people who will be charged with the responsibility of designing, planning and implementing community development projects.

Mwayele also urged them to ensure all their children who completed the 2022 KCPE examinations are enrolled in area secondary schools to realize the 100 per cent transition policy.
