Malava NG-CDF facelifts infrastructure, facilitates bursaries in schools

Several schools in Malava constituency have benefitted from various projects courtesy of the area National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

NG-CDF fund manager Collins Obuya noted that the projects are meant to improve the learning environment in schools.

At Silungai Girls, the NG-CDF commissioned a dormitory which the institution’s principal Benter Omolo highly appreciated.

She thanked the fund for always being ready to assist the school whenever need arises.

“We recognize and appreciate your immeasurable contribution to the growth of our school and the well-being of our students,” she said, further adding that they are waiting on the CDF’s promise of a new school bus.

Omolo revealed that the fund had purchased land for the school in 2014 for setting up a dormitory but the school is still in dire need of another piece of land to put up a playing field and staff houses.

“We have already received bursary worth Ksh174, 000 from the ward kitty through Manda Shivanga MCA David Kivishi as well as Ksh.748, 000 from the Malava MP Malulu Injendi,” the principal said in appreciation.

Tombo Secondary School Principal Martin Wotia thanked the fund for helping the school put up an administration block.

He stated that the only way to pay back for the good deed is to work hard and excel in academics.

“In last year’s national exams, five students qualified for university admission, a huge milestone for the school which keeps on increasing in student population,” he proudly stated.

He added that the school needs land for expansion to set up a boarding section.

At Namanja Secondary School, the fund built a physics laboratory.

Principal John Wafula said they are now ready to work on improving the students’ grades in Sciences.

He added that the school has received bursary worth Ksh337, 500 from the MP and MCA Kevin Mahelo. The money has helped retain the boys in school.

The school has a student population of 840. Since 2019, the school has been able to take 47 students to university.

Wafula urged parents to be close to their children and to encourage them to take their studies seriously.

Lunyerere, Bwanga and Indulusia primary schools also received various projects courtesy of the NG-CDF.

MCA Kivishi promised to support schools in his ward by ensuring teachers on BoM terms are absorbed in the system.

“I will also sponsor exam papers in schools to enable learners sharpen their wits to improve performance in national exams. I’m also optimistic that with the county adding the ward kitty allocation to Ksh4 million from Ksh2 million, we will issue out bursaries to more needy learners.” He concluded.
