Richard Mulonzya, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) County Quality Assurance and Standards Officer (QASO) in Makueni, has assured that all is well with the county-level music competitions, which kicked off today at Kathonzweni AIC Day and Boarding Comprehensive School.
At the same time, the officer encouraged pupils to take co-curricular activities seriously, adding that they are essential, in line with Curriculum-Based Education (CBE).
“Let them not forget that the participation improves communication, confidence, unity, and develops their minds and on top, brings about national heritage,” Mulonzya said.
He encouraged boys to fully participate in music and drama, adding that they are lagging.
Speaking to the media, Mulonzya noted that there is a combination of two groups: primary and junior schools, participating in the music competition.
“We have participants from the 10 sub-counties in the festival starting June 16-18. From here, the teams will represent the county at the regional from June 29 to July 5, and then proceed to nationals, wishing them all the best,” Mulonzya said.

Mulonzya thanked teachers for their commitment in different roles, adding that the children are well taken care of.
“We have three villages for the children to sleep. Their security is assured,” the officer added.
A teacher, Mary Kikwanu from Ndunguni Comprehensive School, noted that her team, representing lower primary ‘Nitanawa’, has already won and is proceeding to the regionals.
She added that it only requires dedication and reminding pupils of the importance of co-curricular activities.
