A devastated family in Kyangala village, Makueni County, is struggling with pain after their young son was reportedly assaulted by his teacher.
According to the boy’s mother, Catherine Mwikali, the Grade 8 pupil was subjected to excessive punishment by a teacher at Kwamwingio Primary School, leaving him with visible injuries, including a broken finger on his right hand.
The boy recounted the horrifying experience, saying it began with a misunderstanding during class.
“We were writing some football stuff, and one boy had the material in his book. When he dropped it, I stooped, collected it, and gave it back to him. When the teacher saw that, he told me to see him after the lesson,” the 11-year-old narrated.

After the lesson, the child was allegedly beaten and then ordered to fetch water. In the kitchen, he encountered more suffering.
“The cook told me to stand aside until I finished crying, then he would show me the next task. I told him my hand was swollen. Instead, he poured hot water on it,” the boy added.
The family, desperate for justice, turned to the school administration but received no support. Mwikali said their pleas were dismissed: “The school administration asked me not to report the incident as I would tarnish its name. The teacher who beat my son did not seem remorseful.”
Community members have also condemned the incident. Resident Cosmas Mbolu criticised the teacher’s actions and urged educators to handle discipline responsibly.
“If a learner commits a serious offence, there are legal procedures, and the relevant authorities, such as the police, can be involved, but not teachers taking matters into their own hands,” he stated.
The family continues to demand accountability as the boy recovers from his injuries and trauma.
