Makueni branch Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET) Executive Secretary Justus Kimeu has called upon parents to stop interfering with running of schools and let the school heads do their duty.

Speaking at Wote town, he gave a recent act by parents of Usalala secondary school in Mbooni East where parents walked in school and protested against the principal. He rather advised that they should direct their grievances to the relevant authority but not interfering with running of the school.

“Kindly let the principals run the school peacefully. If the parents continue disrupting the school we will call upon TSC to remove all teachers and allow parents bring their own if that brings peace to them,” Kimeu said

On national examination funding, he urged MPs to review and allocate more money for examination and also for the training of teachers on Curriculum Based Education (CBE).

The Union official also noted that teachers in parts of Makueni County endure scarcity of basic amenities yet they risk losing their hardship allowance due to proposed degazzetment and gazettement of new areas.

He called upon the legislatures to challenge the degazzetment in Parliament to protect vulnerable teachers, engage stakeholders like TSC, teachers union and local leaders to solidify this demand, advocate for formal recognition of all Makueni hardship zones backed up by evidence.

“The whole of Makueni should remain gazetted and no part of it should be degazetted. Teachers will suffer a lot if this happens,” Kimeu.
