Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior has declared the county’s commitment to education transformation during his second annual state of the county address at the Makueni County Assembly Chambers.

Notably, the county has bolstered Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers, erecting classes, offices, and stores in 34 centers.

A significant stride was taken in enhancing digital learning, with 2,144 ECDE teachers trained and 2,058 digital gadgets distributed to support learning in 1,197 ECDE centers, courtesy of EIDU Kenya support.

In 2023, the county awarded 100 scholarships to Form One students and 81 to those in universities, while an additional 1,928 learners benefited from bursaries in the fiscal year 2022/2023.

For technical education, Mutula highlighted increased capitation for 4,496 trainees in CTTIs, amounting to Ksh 23,823,278 in the fiscal year 2022/23.

An extra Ksh 20 million has been allocated for 4,417 trainees in the current financial year, aiming to alleviate the fee burden.

Infrastructure development and equipping of CTTIs have been a priority, with 14 ICT centers established, including the recently opened Mtito Andei Resource Centre providing ICT skills and fostering employment.

The county also embraced digitization in internship applications through the Makueni Online Attachment Application Portal, boasting efficiency with 1,946 registered users, 710 applications, and 419 beneficiaries within an hour.

Through the Makueni County VTC Information Management System, transparency and efficiency in managing 59 VTCs were achieved, focusing on student enrollment, fund disbursement, revenue generation, and asset management.

The county established the Devolution and Community-Led Development school, witnessing the graduation of the first cohort of 35 students, with plans to train 500 students from diverse societal groups in the 2024 class, including the county public service.
