Major teacher unions’ top organs call weekend meetings ahead of Monday strike

KNUT NEC when they announced the strike last week. Another meeting ahead of the Monday strike is ongoing currently at the headquarters.

Both the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have scheduled meetings of their top leadership this weekend.

As stated in a memo by KUPPET Secretary General Akelo Misori, the union’s National Governing Council (NGC) will convene on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the Kasarani Sportsview Hotel in Nairobi, beginning at 9 a.m.

KUPPET NGC when it announced the Monday strike. It is again meeting tomorrow ahead of D-Day on Monday as schools reopen.

“You are hereby invited to a National Governing Council meeting which will take place on Sunday 25th August, 2024 at Kasarani Sportsview Hotel Nairobi, starting from 9.00am,” reads the memo.

And as for KNUT, the meeting is held today at the headquarters in the city centre.

According to a memo dated August 23 signed by KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu, a special National Executive Council (NEC) meeting is scheduled started at 10 a.m in the NEC Boardroom on the 6th floor of the KNUT Head Office.

“You are hereby notified of a Special National Executive Council Meeting scheduled to be held tomorrow Saturday 24th August, 2024 starting from 10.00am at the KNUT Head Office, NEC Boardroom on 6th Floor,” read the memo that was circulated yesterday.

In the memo, union NEC members are reminded to wear the official green attire.

“You are reminded to come for the meeting in our KNUT official GREEN attire,” reads the memo.
