Major reforms in teaching service soon, says senior TSC official

The Ministry of Education is committed to ensure learners acquire the 21st century skills in order to navigate around the challenges, a Senior Deputy Director Paul Odhiambo Kokello has said.
To cope up with global educational system that has been changing in accordance to the changing trends and social demands, the ministry is rolling out competency based curriculum (CBC) for transformative teachers’ education that will transform teaching service for quality education, added Kokello.
He said the commission has developed teachers’ professional development (TPD) policy framework and it will be launched in this month.
The categories of teachers targeted in the TPD Programme are all primary school teachers, secondary teachers and those in TIVET including tutors; equally, all school administrators will be expected to undertake TPD courses.
The policy introduces seven areas of professional development that are in line with the educational global requirements in professionalism, assessment, inclusive education practice, comprehensive school health and safety, financial literacy and instructional leadership and administration.
