Magoha declares schools a politics-free zone

By Fredrick Odiero

Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha has declared that politicians will not be allowed to meddle in the management of learning institutions within the country.

He particularly singled out the ongoing construction of  Junior Secondary School as a case in point where politics will not be allowed.

The CS advised school boards to look for alternative contractors if those appointed have political strings attached.

Prof. Magoha was speaking at Otieno Oyoo High school in Kisumu County where he went to witness the ground breaking ceremony of construction of classrooms.

The CS lauded private schools for doing a good job at complementing work done by their public counterparts especially in constructing junior secondary schools.

Prof. Magoha advised them to erect model junior schools as the government moves against time in implementing the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC).

He said private schools are expected to construct 4000 classrooms towards that end and that the required 10,000 classrooms will be complete by August this year.
