Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha has affirmed that the money for the Boards of Management Teachers has been disbursed and the delay is due to the normal cash flow issues in the government.
Magoha has, however, bashed critics blaming him for the delay saying such people should know how government works.
The BOM teachers who have gone without pay since March 2020 when schools were closed to avert the spread of the Covid-19 are set to receive a stimulus package of Sh10, 000 per month.
Speaking after Education stakeholders meeting today, Magoha said non-teaching staff will also be paid an amount which is being worked on by the Ministry of Education.
The awaited news on the schools reopening dates remain a subject for another day. However, Prof Magoha urged Kenyans to avoid speculations but wait for official communication on or before September 25th.
“We have decided to engage the smaller stakeholders group between now and Saturday to work on the finer details of the proposals that shall be examined by the larger stakeholders group and if succeeded, then I will make official communication,” said Magoha.
The CS, however, pointed out that achieving social distance in public primary and secondary schools is quite challenging. In a move curb the challenge, the government has set aside Sh1.9 billion for making desks for primary and secondary schools.
The government also plans to buy masks for learners at a cost of Sh35 per pair of re-washable masks.
However, as the government put in place extensive plans to facilitate school reopening, school heads have expressed their frustration in the release of Sh.15.4 billion pledge which is meant to aid in preparation ahead of reopening.
