Residents of Magenche Ward in Kisii County have raised alarm over a dangerous excavation site filled with water which is putting school children’s life at risk.

According to the residents, the site, dug up a year ago to extract marram for the Magenche-Mobirona Primary School road construction, has been filled with rainwater and turn into a pool, which children risk drowning.

Area leadership led by MCA Timothy Ogugu has promised to raise the issue with the Governor’s office to find a solution for safety measures.

Area Chief Tabitha Ngisa noted that children playing near Mobirona, Nyabinyi, Mokomoni, and Motontera primary schools are most at risk, adding that the site is also a danger to women and livestock, and has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
