Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu has called on Principals to develop a framework for their schools to generate income to support their development instead of relying on government incentives.
“You are free to start projects such as greenhouses, dairy and poultry keeping to generate income,” he suggested.
Machogu made the remarks while addressing Principals of secondary schools from Kisii and Nyamira counties.
The CS also congratulated President Ruto on his appointment as Champion for Institutional Reform by the African Union (AU) Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
He said that his appointment will enable him to bring more reforms to the education sector, especially in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, which he said was the future of STEM advancement and human resources.
Machogu said that it will also lead to the realization of the Comprehensive Institutional Reform Initiative that started in 2016.
The CS hinted that the President will visit the region in April to launch education development projects.
