Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has praised the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) for its significant progress in fortifying qualifications, making them globally competitive and facilitating labor and skills mobility worldwide.
In a speech delivered by Principal Secretary Dr. Esther Muoria during the inauguration of the 10-member KNQA Council, chaired by former Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis, Machogu expressed gratitude for the commitment to fool proofing qualifications.
He emphasized the collaborative efforts and sacrifices behind this initiative, aimed at ensuring the full implementation of the National Qualifications Framework.
Machogu declared the occasion as pivotal, underscoring the commitment to effectively implement the Kenya National Qualifications Framework.
Dr. Muoria echoed this sentiment, highlighting the ongoing education and training sector reforms to enhance relevance, equity, and access to education.
“The ongoing implementation of CBC and CBET implies that KNQA should walk ahead of the pack in ensuring that all qualifications are properly mapped in the Kenya National Qualifications Framework. This will not be a mean feat,” stated Dr. Muoria.
She commended KNQA for elevating Kenya’s standing on the global map concerning the KNQF implementation.
Dr. Muoria further emphasized the growing international recognition of the National Qualifications Framework concept, expressing gratitude for KNQA’s role in promoting transparency and mutual trust in qualifications frameworks for lifelong learning in Africa.
The newly appointed Council, serving a three-year term effective October 19, 2023, was urged by Dr. Muoria to seize opportunities and contribute to making National Qualifications operational in a changing world.
KNQA Chairperson Mr. Stanley Kiptis assured the PS of the Authority’s commitment to developing the necessary national policies for the qualification framework’s effective implementation.
Dr. Alice Kande, Acting Director-General, applauded the government’s support and outlined the Authority’s plans, including guidelines for certifying skilled workers without formal education under the “recognition of prior learning” program.
Additionally, she emphasized the Council’s rich expertise mix, crucial for ensuring the KNQF’s effective implementation.
The overarching goal is to make qualifications obtained in Kenya relevant, credible, portable, and globally competitive.
Also in attendance were Kiptis, Dr. Alice Kande, the Ag. Director-General and senior management representatives.
The KNQA Council, with its diverse expertise, is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape and fostering global competitiveness.
