Machakos youth appeals for funds to complete aviation studies

By Agnes Orang’o

Earnest Mwanzia from Kavumbu in Mwala sub county of Machakos county is at the verge of losing hope after his studies were cut short due to lack of fees.

Mwanzia did his KCSE in 2017 and joined Kenya School of Flying which has always been his dream.

For two years now, he has been home working as a farm hand with fee arrears of 3 million shillings.

“My education was cut short because I ran out of funds. It is so frustrating and as you can see I have been staying home as a shamba boy. I have been doing this for a while but I really need to go back to school,” said Mwanzia.

“I have worked hard for my dream and I don’t want to see it go down the drain. I would appreciate any help that comes through,” he added.

His mother, Bibiana Muinde said that her husband died in 2017 leaving her to fend for her three children.

“I was left with three children. The first born didn’t proceed after finishing secondary school due to lack of fees. The second born is Mwanzia and the third one is in secondary. For Mwanzia, I have been trying my best to see him through aviation school in vain,” she said.

Being on her own has been challenging disclosing that she has sold most of her husband’s possessions to pay for her son’s school fees until she became broke.

Currently, she relies on cattle rearing and farming but the ongoing drought has worsened the situation for her.

“I have sold all property left behind by my husband and paid over Ksh.2 million fees and now he has arrears amounting to more than Ksh.3 million. I would like to ask for well wishers to help my son complete his studies,” she said.
