Machakos Primary School are the 2025 National Champions in the African Traditional Cultural dance Class 1020H in the ongoing Kenya National Music Festivals held at Meru High school.
The girls’ troupe emerged tops with a powerful Akamba rendition of Kilumi dance that dazzled both the judges and spectators at the auditorium on Monday the opening day of the music extravaganza.
Dressed in vibrant yellow and black-coloured costumes, the dancers exhibited mastery of content and seamless transitions to scoop 89 marks, the highest in the category.
Under the skilled choreography of their trainer Irene Ndonye the girls showcased talent and agility in performance of one of the few remnants of Kamba traditional identity.

“It is a well-deserved recognition of their hard work and dedication. The exposure to other cultures is also good in building their confidence and character,” said a parent to one of the participating pupils.
“The victory is a significant achievement for the school and a source of pride for the Machakos community,” he added.
The Kenya National Music Festivals is a premier music competition that brings together talented students from across the country to showcase their musical prowess.
The festival provides a platform for students to exhibit their skills, learn from each other, and celebrate Kenya’s diverse musical heritage.
“The school’s win is a source of pride for the Machakos community, and we look forward to seeing their future performances,” said School Head teacher Richard Kitheka.
