Pupils from Machakos Primary School in Machakos County this week embarked on an exciting adventure to Amboseli National Park in Kajiado County, marking the end of the second term in style.

The trip, which catered to grades 4 to 8 pupils, was both a motivational reward and an educational experience.

School Head teacher Richard Kitheka said the trip to Amboseli National Park provided the pupils with a unique opportunity to learn about nature and wildlife beyond the confines of their classroom.

He said school trips were essential especially in actualization of the new CBE curriculum which placed emphasis on learning through activities.

Kitheka in his capacity as the chairman of Kenya Primary Head teachers Association (KEPSHA) Machakos Sub County emphasized that the trips are not intended to make money for teachers but are inspirational, educational and motivational.

He said most of the expenses goes into hiring transport and other related logistics, disclosing that they several buses for the school trips.

“CBE is about activities. Some schools go to Mombasa and even Dubai but trips are optional, “said Kitheka during an interview in his office on Wednesday.

“The trip was an eye-opener for our pupils. They got to learn about the different animal species, their habitats, and the importance of conservation. It was a fun and educational experience for all of them,” said a teacher at Machakos Primary School.

The trip was also designed to motivate the young learners and reward their hard work throughout the term.The pupils were thrilled to explore the park and enjoy the scenic beauty of the Amboseli ecosystem.

“We believe that experiences like these are essential for the holistic development of our pupils,” said Kitheka.

He said the trip to Amboseli National Park also served as a valuable conservation education experience for the pupils and cuts across subjects such as Social studies and Environmental Science.

They learned about the importance of protecting wildlife and their habitats, as well as the role that humans play in conservation efforts.

“We hope that experiences like these will inspire our pupils to become future conservationists and leaders in environmental protection,” said the teacher.

The trip was a memorable experience for the pupils of Machakos Primary School as they explored the park and learned about the wildlife, they created lasting memories that will stay with them for a lifetime.

Some of the pupils said they had seen an elephant for the first time.

“I was excited to see the Elephant, the Buffalo and the Zebra. I had only seen the animals on Tv and books. I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to more experiences like this in the future,” said a pupil who enjoyed the trip.
