Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti has denounced political demonstrations that may lead to closure of schools and disruption of education activities in the County.
She said demonstrations that led to chaos, loss of lives and property and the disruption of the school calendar were unhealthy.
Ndeti instead called on the opposing leaders to employ dialogue as a way of finding a solution to the challenges that are affecting the country under President William Ruto’s government.
She spoke at Kathiani Girls High School during the Prize-giving Day event for the students who excelled in the 2022 K.C.S.E exam.
Governor Ndeti distanced herself from the anti-government demos called by the Azimio Alliance to protest the high cost of living.
“I say no to demonstrations that will lead to closure of schools and disrupt the education of our children. Let the leaders’ dialogue and find solutions, “said Ndeti.
She congratulated Kathiani Girls High School for posting a sterling performance in last year’s K.C.S.E in which they were ranked best in Machakos County and position 63 nationally.
Kathiani Girls High School which was elevated to a National school status in 2015 is the only girls’ national School in Machakos County.
The school had a 96.4% transition rate to University in the 2022 K.C.S.E
Governor Ndeti acknowledged that it was not easy to post such a performance and commended the school managed including the Principal Ms. Damaris Munyao and Board of Management Chairman Dr. Daniel Yumbya for providing leadership.
Dr. Yumbya is also the County Health Executive Committee Member.
The County chief said she was going to work with all stakeholders in the education sector to improve the standards of education in the county adding that the County had all it takes to be the best.
She challenged the girls to emulate the leadership of Machakos County which was comprised of women adding that the girls had no excuse not to excel.
Ten girls who scored grades A- of 74 points and above were each awarded with a suitcase, medal, a phone and cash money.
The top student was additionally awarded with a laptop.
The governor also donated two 10,000 liter water tanks to the school to ease their water problems.
She promised bursary support to the needy students in the school.
Top education officials in the county including County Director of Education Margaret Mwirigi graced the occasion.
