Machakos Deputy Governor has urged President William Ruto to stop other engagements and resolve the University Lecturers’ strike.

The strike caused by unpaid dues amounting to Sh7.9 billion is now in its seventh week and has paralysed learning in all Public Universities in Kenya.

Speaking during a burial in Katangi, Yatta constituency, on Saturday, Mwangangi said the President kept travelling and promising to transform Kenya into a Singapore while neglecting education, which was critical to the realisation of that transformation.

“All Public Universities are now at a standstill. Our children are waiting for the end of the National strike, but our President is busy travelling and talking of transforming the Country into a Singapore,” said  Mwangangi.

“The President should solve the crisis in our Universities first. How are you transforming when you are killing the education sector?” he posed.

He said the President had been on record recollecting Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, unaware that he could be the next President of Kenya.

“The late Raila Odinga told us that Kalonzo is ten times better than President Ruto. Those are not my words,” said Mwangangi.
