Machakos gubernatorial candidate Johnson Muthama has begun an initiative of providing primary schools with food in a bid to retain children in school.
Speaking in Tala town, Mr Muthama noted that school-going kids are finding it hard to concentrate in class due to hunger and there was a need to ensure that as schools resume there is food, especially maize and beans to sustain the pupils.
“I have already donated to six constituencies and will continue doing so. We cannot avoid the fact that there is hunger. This feeding program will ensure that kids stay in school,” he said.

“I will give out the food to primary schools and day secondary schools. This should not be seen as voter bribing because these children don’t have voting cards,” added Muthama.
The United Democratic Alliance chair urged competitors to stop giving handouts to voters during meetings as they have caused chaos in homes and communities at large.
“This is different from those people lining people up to give them a hundred shillings in markets. I would like to urge my competitors to desist from such actions,” he said.
Muthama spoke after meeting the clergy from Kathiani, Kangundo and Matungulu sub counties.
