Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has pledged to support education projects and elevate education standards in the County.
Speaking at Kibabii University on Thursday, 26th August during his inauguration, Lusaka assured residents that he will ensure access to quality education to public and private schools in equal measure.
“We must start early if we want to change the mindsets of our children to face the future,” he said.
He added that he will re-introduce training for Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers and Vocational Training Center (VTC) instructors, purchase and distribute learning materials to all ECDE centers and incorporate classrooms and general school infrastructure in the County’s annual budget.
Furthermore, Lusaka promised to include the educational needs of Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWD) in the ECDE and subsequent higher education structure by procuring teaching aids, support materials and state-of-the-art equipment in the existing training centers.
In addition, the County boss noted that his government will revamp the existing bursary program by increasing the allocation, ensuring transparency and introducing screening to ensure that none of the deserving children miss school.
Speaking during the function, Kibabii University Vice Chancellor Prof. Ipara Odeo thanked Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka for his continuous support towards the growth of the University.
“I appreciate that Lusaka has been re-elected as the County Governor. I hope that he will continue supporting this great institution to ensure that it grows to greater heights,” Ipara said.
On his part, Webuye West MP-Elect Dan Wanyama decried the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) saying that it was a burden to the parents and asked the relevant stakeholders to consider scrapping it and revert to the previous education system.
“If there is an issue that will be the first to deal with, then it’s CBC, I will present it before the floor of the house,” Wanyama said.
Present at the inauguration function were academicians from Kibabii University and Bungoma County Director of Education Philip Chirchir.
