Lusaka approves Ksh. 200M for scholarship beneficiaries

Bungoma governor Hon. Ken Lusaka has approved 200 million shillings in bursary for payment of pending school fees for scholarship beneficiaries in the county.

Speaking during Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Bungoma Chapter meeting, the governor said the school heads should expect money in their school accounts starting next week.

Lusaka added that even though the program was noble, it would require a proper audit to make it better and sustainable.

“This is a very ambitious program hence the need to carry a proper audit that is not aimed at witchhunting but making it more transparent and sustainable,” he said .

He assured the school heads that the programme was there to stay and told off critics who had speculated that his regime would do away with it.

“I am a career civil servant and you don’t scrap a good idea just because it was started by your predecessor,” he said.

The governor at the same time announced that the county government would soon roll out a program that will see the hiring of intern teachers to help schools struggling with shortage of teachers.

“During my campaigns I promised to help out the already overburdened schools by hiring teachers on internship basis and this is what I am going to do,” Lusaka said.
