Lukenya University celebrated receivership of the university charter awarded to them by President Uhuru Kenyatta at Kakamega State Lodge on August 2, 2022.

Speaking during the ceremony, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Prakash Heda who was the chief guest, called upon the entire university fraternity to aspire to be great in all aspects.

Heda said it was a great honor for the university to receive the charter and encouraged the community to make use of the institution which was just within their reach.

The pro-chancellor was recently appointed by the board of trustees after the retirement of the former chancellor Haris Mule.

The co-founder, Mrs Martha Kasanga Mulwa said the journey started in 2012 and the milestone had already been represented by celebration of the charter award.

“Out of this bush, we will continue producing the best. I want to thank the students and their parents who chose Lukenya University as their higher institution of learning,” said Mulwa.

The now fully chartered university offers degree, certificate and diploma courses in the school of agriculture, natural sciences and technical studies, education and social sciences and school of business and economics.

The university is in the process of establishing the school of medicine and health sciences.

The Vice Chancellor Constantine Nyamboga said the current population stood at 2,000 students and they expected more students as they grew.

“With the charter, today marks further engagement in the community and beyond. We just displayed the charter, logo, and seal to officially celebrate the awarding,” he added.

Nyamboga noted that the university participated in Corporate Social Responsibility by imparting modern farming skills to the community.

They also provided quality and intensive training to their students by reviewing and aligning academic programs to the current world skills demand to make them competitive in the job market.

“Recently, we added three dormitories with a capacity of 160 each. Accommodation is not a challenge to us. We keep on expanding since we have enough land,” said Nyamboga.

Makueni County Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili encouraged the university to offer their best in  to the students who join the university to give them an edge in the job market..

Board of Trustees Chairperson Sylvia Kasanga said that apart from having sufficient facilities  and programs, the university had a robust mental health program to help the students and the community at large.

“We are living in difficult times and we keep on checking on our students and tackle any problems they may have whether short or long term. Let’s be our brothers keepers,” she said.
