Lugulu Girls students protest alleged defilement

Activities were brought to a standstill in Webuye town as Form Four students from Lugulu Girls in Bungoma County stormed out protesting over alleged defilement incidences within the institution.

According to them, there have been repeated cases of attempted defilement in their hostels but they have alleged that the school administration threatened to expel anyone who raises the issue.

“For several occasions, an unknown man has been sneaking into our hostels, switches off the lights but whenever we raise the issue to administration, we receive expulsion threats,” said one of the students.

According to the police report, the school experienced unrest on Monday night as the candidates demanded to be addressed by the Ministry of Education officials.

The officer established that one of the students reported that an unknown male attempted to defile her but she raised an alarm making the suspect flee.

Some of the students who spoke to the media after storming out of the school accused the management of inaction in the wake of defilement cases.

Investigations have since been established on the claims. Bungoma East OCPD Valerian Obore assuring the students that speedy investigations have been launched and that all the victims will be brought to book.

“I want to assure all of you that we have the investigation officers on the ground and we shall ensure that we bring the suspects to the book,” Obore assured.

His sentiments were echoed by Caleb Omondi quality assurance officer in Bungoma county who called on students to remain calm as police investigate the matter.

However, the institution has been so far shut indefinitely.
