Lugari Member of Parliament (MP)Nabii Nabwera has rolled out a constituency-wide education support programme aimed at cushioning secondary school students against school fees challenges and keeping learners in class.
The initiative was officially conducted at Holy Family Musembe Senior School in Chekalini Ward, where students drawn from secondary schools across Lugari Constituency were hosted.
Under the programme, each beneficiary received a cheque covering 50 per cent of their total school fees, a move intended to enhance access to education and curb cases of absenteeism and school dropouts linked to financial hardship.
Addressing students and education stakeholders during the event, MP Nabwera said the intervention was part of his sustained commitment to investing in education as a foundation for social and economic development in the constituency. He noted that many capable learners risk losing valuable learning time due to unpaid fees, a challenge the programme seeks to address.
“This support is meant to ensure that students remain in school and are given an equal opportunity to pursue their academic goals,” Nabwera said, adding that education remains a key priority in his development agenda for Lugari.

School administrators present welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, particularly for learners from vulnerable households. They observed that partial fee sponsorship would significantly reduce disruptions to learning and improve overall academic outcomes.
Beneficiary students expressed relief and appreciation, noting that the support would ease pressure on their parents and allow them to concentrate fully on their studies.
The programme underscores MP Nabwera’s broader education-focused agenda, which seeks to empower learners across all wards in Lugari Constituency. Leaders and education stakeholders have called for sustained partnerships to ensure that financial constraints do not lock students out of education.
With the latest intervention, MP Nabwera reiterated his pledge to continue supporting education initiatives that keep students in class and nurture future leaders for Lugari and the country at large.
