The Ministry of Education has been urged to reduce the cut –off entry points and grades for one to join the teachers training colleges.
Speaking to the press in his office the Principal of Mewa Teachers Training College located in Bungoma, Gregory Wakoli said that this would enable more students to join the institutions since most of them who did not manage to get the current minimum grade of C Plain for P 1 Teachers, C+ for Diploma Education and D+ for Early Childhood Education (ECDE).
Wakoli has urged the Government to lower the grade to C- so as to assure the country of more teachers in future since if the current trend continues the country is likely to lackenough personnel in the teaching fraternity.
He said more students now prefer to join technical training colleges as they even admit students of lower grades in the National exams KCPE and KCSE.
The Principal said the Teachers Service Commission should consider students with a proficiency Certificate in their yearly recruitment of 5,000 Teachers countrywide.
