Long-serving West Pokot CSO is set to retire after active service as a teacher, Head teacher, and Curriculum Support Officer. Nelson Musani looks back with pride as he proceeds into retirement starting this Friday, August 1, 2025.
As he prepares for retirement, he has emphasised the importance of financial planning for teachers, noting that retirement brings an abrupt change, particularly the cessation of a regular salary. He underscores the need for robust financial planning and wise investments while still in employment.
As a respected figure in education circles, Musani has shared his insights on securing a stable financial future, encouraging teachers to make the most of their working years. His experience and expertise have been invaluable to the education sector, and his retirement will certainly be marked with appreciation for his years of service.
As the County Curriculum Support Officer and chairman, Musani has worked closely with teachers and educators to improve curriculum implementation and student outcomes, ensuring that the zones he has been managing are among the best in the county.

With over four decades of experience, Musani has supported educators, and specifically teachers, in delivering high-quality education in schools under his jurisdiction. He has been extensively involved in initiatives to simplify systems, such as the Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development system, which provides a real panorama of teachers, learners, and community involvement in education matters.
Musani’s experience as an educator is impressive, with a career spanning 42 years, including serving as a teacher in Ortum from 1979 to 1980, before proceeding to Morpus, Propoi, Kanyerus, Kacheliba, Nakwijit, Kongelai, and Kapkecha primary schools as a teacher and Head teacher, and then as a Curriculum Support Officer. His dedication to education and commitment to shaping young minds has been truly commendable, as he has taken pride in his former learners who are now prominent figures across all sectors of the economy.
As a curriculum support officer, he immensely dedicated his teaching experience to support other educators and improve curriculum implementation. His extensive background in primary education definitely gave him valuable insights into the needs of learners, parents, and teachers at all learning levels.
His educational background includes training at Machakos Teachers Training College (TTC) for his basic knowledge in education as a teacher, and he later enriched his experience at Kisii University for his degree in education. These forms of training gave him a new impetus and meaning to learning, as they equipped him with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel as a curriculum support officer and a teacher as well.

The officer has been humorous and approachable, which has led him to resonate well with teachers and other education stakeholders. He is praised for encouraging creativity by promoting games that spark creativity and imagination in learners, and for fostering social skills by encouraging learners to develop essential social skills like teamwork and communication. Making learning fun has been his key priority by encouraging teachers to engage learners through games, which is fantastic for the cognitive development of learners.
Musani has additionally encouraged game-promoting initiatives by bringing people together and creating a sense of community, which has proved to be wonderful. He is on record as having supported development by promoting soccer, athletics, and other games that enhance problem-solving, critical thinking, and strategic planning. His enthusiasm for games has been infectious and inspiring and has left a mark in Siyoi Zone.
Capacity building for all teachers has additionally been one of his topmost priorities and has truly made a difference. His dedication to improving teacher skills and knowledge has been commendable. He has helped teachers grow professionally and personally, empowering them to provide better education and support to the learners.
The officer has striven to enhance leadership in capacity building initiatives, which has enhanced teacher capabilities and ultimately benefited the entire education system. His commitment to education and teacher development has been remarkable and gone a long way in playing a vital role in shaping the future of education and making a positive impact on students’ lives.

The retirement party will be held at Siyoi Comprehensive School, a prominent institution located in Kapenguria, West Pokot County on August 1, 2025.
