The former long serving chairman of University Academic Staff Union (UASU), Muga K’olale has died in Homa Bay.

It is reported that the former tough talking university union boss has been ailing for quite a while.

K’olale died on Saturday evening while undergoing treatment at Matata Nursing Hospital in Oyugis, Homa Bay County.

The Director of Matata Nursing Hospital, John Malago, confirmed that the don passed on at the hospital.

“He was admitted to the hospital on March 21 for treatment. We condole with his family for the great loss,” said the director while speaking to the media.

His body was preserved at the mortuary of the same hospital facility.

In his hay days, the don fought viciously for university staff across the country, leading strikes and signing several Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) with the government on behalf of dons and university staff members.

Muga was the UASU chair for a long period of time until July 2021 where he left the position to Grace Nyongesa of Kisii University.
