Tension is high at Lodwar Boys High School after students staged protests early Friday morning, demanding the removal of the school principal over what they described as persistent poor academic performance.
The students who blamed the poor results on delayed syllabus coverage and alleged failure by some teachers to conduct lessons, said the situation was unacceptable for a national school, warning that academic standards at the institution had continued to decline.
The protests reportedly began at around 5:00am when students left the school compound and marched through the Nakwamekuii area before heading towards Lodwar town in the direction of Kanamkemer. As they marched, students were heard chanting slogans calling for changes in the school’s leadership, including demands for the principal to step down.
Concerns raised by the learners appear to be reflected in the school’s 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) performance. According to results released by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), no candidate attained an A or A- grade. Only six students scored a B+, while nine attained a B. Nineteen candidates scored B-, 28 got a C+, and 40 attained a plain C.

A large number of candidates were clustered in the lower grades, with 27 scoring C-, 45 attaining a D+, 27 getting a D, and two scoring a D-. No candidate scored an E. The school posted a mean score of 5.5616, a performance that has raised concern among parents, alumni and education stakeholders given the school’s national status.
The unrest comes days after the Lodwar Old Boys Association (LOBA), led by Chairman Dr Eloto Abok, also called for the removal of the principal and a complete overhaul of the school’s administration following the poor KCSE results.
School activities were disrupted as authorities moved in to restore calm, with education officials and security personnel expected to engage the students and the school management to address the grievances.
