Lobby urges Kajiado residents to enrol children with disabilities to schools

The Maasai community has been urged to enrol children living with disabilities to schools.

Partners for Care Kenya Department of Mobility Carts and Devices head Mary Wanganga said that People Living With Disability (PLWDs) should not be discriminated and should be treated equally.

She was speaking during the donation of two mobility carts and 30 walking sticks at Esonorua Keekonyokie ward in Kajiado West constituency.

Wanganga said that the organization has been supporting the community for more than 12 years through provision of mobility carts and walking sticks, a project aimed at reducing poverty and also appreciating elders.

They have so far donated a total of 200 mobility carts in Kajiado County.

Magadi ward MCA Isaac Kiresian commended the well-wishers for the donation and challenged the community to ensure they capitalize on its rich culture.

Nancy Milanoi, CEO of Naretu Maa, a Community-Based Organization (CBO) urged the community to cease the exercise of dangerous cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriages.

Kajiado County Executive Head of Protocol Jenipher Moinkett commended the donors for choosing to support PLWDs in the county and promised support from the county government.

One of the beneficiaries of the mobility carts, 7-year-old Naperia who is yet to start education, appealed for support from well-wishers to enrol in boarding school.

Since election of former County Woman Representative Janet Teiyaa, who lives with disability, many PLWDs have come out demanding for equal representation and participation in decision-making.
