Litein Boys students’ break into bursar’s office, steal cash during recent strike

Students at Litein Boys High School allegedly stole approximately a million from the school bursar’s office during a night of unprecedented chaos that has left the institution reeling. The shocking theft, which included cash meant for Form Four Champions and day-to-day school expenses, occurred after students were denied the chance to watch the English Premier League clash between Arsenal and Manchester City on Sunday night.

One video that has drawn widespread attention shows a man displaying the vandalised safe box, explaining in vernacular that it weighed more than 50 kilograms. Despite its weight, students managed to carry it away and break it open, reportedly making off with nearly half a million shillings. Online critics have questioned why such a large amount of cash was stored in the bursar’s office, with one man in the video remarking, “Those students are intelligent,” while another joked, “They are busy enjoying the money.”

The theft, however, was only the beginning. In a night that spiralled out of control, students burned the administration block destroying uncollected KCSE certificates, smashed computers and CCTV cameras, and vandalised other school property.

Surprisingly, the modern tuition block was left untouched. Other videos show students cooking chapatis in the dormitories, while some walked the school’s cow across the compound, suggesting that students had differing priorities during the strike.

Shockingly, masked students were filmed wielding crude weapons, with one student carrying an axe while visibly injured.

Disturbing messages targeting the principal was also left in the wake of the chaos.

“This is beyond indiscipline; it is criminal,” said a concerned parent. “To burn school property and loot cash over a football match is shocking.”

Authorities confirmed that more than 50 students have been arrested and are set to appear in court tomorrow. Police were forced to intervene when some students attempted to storm nearby Litein Girls’ High School.

Education officials have closed the school indefinitely, assessing the full scale of damage while planning disciplinary and rebuilding measures.

Former Roads Minister Franklin Bett has called for a thorough investigation, warning that the incident highlights deeper societal issues that demand urgent attention.
