Litein Boys High School student will now remain at home until next year following a violent unrest that left property worth millions of shillings destroyed.
The decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the school, attended by students, parents, school officials, and education authorities.
During the meeting, students and parents were given a chance to tour the school and assess the extensive damage.
According to sources, the destruction is the worst ever recorded in the school’s history.
“This level of damage is unacceptable. The school will remain closed until further notice as we assess the situation and chart the way forward,” said a senior school administrator who requested anonymity.
Initial reports indicated that each student would be required to pay Ksh 5,500 to cover the cost of damages before being allowed back.
However, a final decision on this is yet to be confirmed.

Speaking at the meeting, Bomet County Director of Education Julius Ngoneshi condemned the incident, warning students against resorting to violence.
“There are better, peaceful ways to raise concerns. Destroying school property only hurts the learning process and the entire school community,” said Ngoneshi.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports suggest that four more students have been arrested in connection with the chaos, bringing the total number of those detained to 12.
Parents have expressed concern over the rising cases of student unrest in schools and called for increased guidance and counseling efforts.
“We need to understand what’s going wrong with our children. This shouldn’t be happening,” said one parent who attended the meeting.
The school management is expected to announce the next steps in the coming days.
