Likoni Technical and Vocational College (TVC) has called on the Government and other well-wishes to help addresses challenges facing the institution.
Principal Samira Abdalla said some of the major problems include shortage of tutors and lecture halls, which they wish could be sorted out by well-wishers and the government.
“Five more additional tutors are urgently needed to cope with the ever increasing number of students and more lecture halls as the current ones are inadequate,” she pleaded.
At the same time, the institution is in dire need sponsors for the needy students.
Currently, the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning students are sponsored by Toyota Kenya Limited, while those in Business Management are taken care of by the county’s bursary kitty.
Turning to water supply, the principal said a borehole was drilled by the Rotary Club of Mombasa in collaboration with area NG-CDF.
She pleaded with the government to provide them with a bus for easy transport, so that they do not have to hire for official trips. She also suggesting that the school might need the help of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOS) to construct a perimeter wall to keep away intruders.
She urged the Likoni Sub-county community to enroll their youth in the institute, which is committed to preparing them for playing a vital role in society, as well as to be self-reliant in the job market.
Abdalla revealed that the first batch of 60 students was admitted in 2022, the same year the Board of Management (BoM) was instituted.
They currently have 268 students and 12 tutors, 10 0f whom are Public service Commission (PSC) employees and the other two are engaged on Board of Management (BOM) terms.
The college is a centre of excellence in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning with modern and state-of-the-art equipment and two female students managed to get distinctions in refrigeration, while their male counterparts got credits in Business Management
