Kajiado County Governor Joseph ole Lenku has reffirmed his commitment to prioritize the education sector as his key agenda as outlined in his manifesto.

Governor Lenku was speaking after being sworn in on Wednesday, 25th August for his second term at Ildamat Stadium in Kajiado Town.

While boasting of  increasing the number of Early Childhood Education (ECDE) teachers to 1,000 and further hiring 700 teachers on permanent and pensionable terms in his previous term, the Governor said he was eyeing to hire more teachers so as to get to the required teacher student ratio.

He further revealed that due to the education policies he introduced, enrolment in schools increased from 3,000 students to 10.000 students annually while the bursary kitty fund was increased from Ksh40 million to Ksh150 million. As he begins his second term, the Governor pledged to increase the amount to Ksh300 million.

“We have allocated bursaries without tribalism, clanism or nepotism. While people had to change names to get bursaries before, now you do not have to change your children’s name to Naserian or Kanchori to get a bursary,” he said.

He later said that the county shall digitalize revenue collection so that the money collected is used to support his manifestos.
