Learning in NEP hit hard as insecurity bites

Education in Wajir is facing a major crisis as more non-local teachers flee the area following persistent clan feuds.
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has handed over 76 transfer letters to non-local teacher from the area.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) executive secretary Noor Bardad confirmed the mass exodus of non -local teachers in a presser at Wajir town.
He said the affected school were Khorof Harar, Wajir Bor, Riba,Sarman, Kutulo and Tarbaj.
Bardad said the transfer will affect education the area.
Area Members of Parliament also said the move will paralyze education in Wajir which has been performing poorly in national examinations.
The KNUT official said 15 primary schools have allegedly been affected by the movement of non-locals who make the backbone of about 60 per cent the teaching force in the county.
Wajir county Governor Mohamed Abdi said they will not relent in fight against terror ,adding that the main aim of al Shabaab is to disrupt education in order to woe student to join them .

Recently the county has been affected by insecurity incidences. Three teachers were killed at Qarsa primary school by suspected al Shabaab about a month ago.
