Learn simple TVET skills instead of suffering due to lack of university fees, students told

Parents have been cautioned against burdening themselves by taking their children to big universities where they later defer their courses due to lack of school fees but instead, take advantage of technical skills.

Mukiri Mbaabu, the vice chair of Kithoka Vocational and Training College, appealed to parents to send their young adults to the institution, where they will experience the best welfare and skills development.

She thanked the North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood, saying the MP has been very supportive, noting his contribution in disbursing bursaries has been immense.

“Our role is to support the management and ensure the institution runs smoothly for learners to have ample time to gain necessary skills to help transform their lives in future,” Mbaabu said.

She said the institution’s board of management is united and pleaded with parents to know that it is not a must for their children to suffer due to lack of fees or deferring their courses at the University of Nairobi or Mt Kenya University but they can get the skills required to conquer the tough economy.

“We are ready to support young people by equipping them with skills. Stop struggling seeking thousands of money in big universities. We have good teachers who teach them very well. This is a good school and it has a stable and conducive learning institution to stay while acquiring skills. We have enough structures and equipment,” she said.

Nancy Thuranira, Kithoka Vocational Training College Principal said many despise technical skills whereas they are beneficial in transforming their lives.

Thuranira said it is not a must for one to spend all their time in classes but also in co-curricular activities.

“We have all types of courses for everyone including mechanics, masonry, electrical, plumbing, computer studies among others. We are here for the students to showcase their talent. This makes us learn something else a learner is able to do to generate money. I thank the students, Meru county government and the alumni of the institution,” she said.

David Lintari, the carpentry and joinery teacher hailed the Principal for organising a talent show to identify and nature the young one’s talents.

“Education is not only about books but also experience in what happens with our world as well as talents build-up,” he said.
