West Pokot leaders have petitioned the government to put in place strict measures to avert exam irregularities in the ongoing national examinations.
Led by Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto and Mnagei ward Member of County Assembly Richard Todosia, the leaders asked the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to ensure that no irregularities are registered during this year’s exams.
Moroto stated that having free and fair exams requires the input of all stakeholders and this can be easily done if they openly share information that relates to malpractice and measures put up to curb the same.
“The Ministry of Education should put up a sustained and effective campaign to promote the credibility of the national exam council,” said Moroto.
He added that it’s a shame to see the results of learners in various schools cancelled.
“Supervisors should be cautious and not indulge in any kind of exam cheating,” said Moroto.
Last year, results for two schools in West Pokot County were cancelled over involvement in exam cheating.
“We don’t want to hear anything about exam results being withheld as it kills the morale of learners,” added Moroto.
The leaders made an impromptu visit to Nasokol Girls High School where Moroto urged the students to work hard and be close to teachers.
Todosia (MCA) wished the girls success in the national examination.
Nasokol Girls High School Principal Susan Ombiri said 310 candidates are sitting for the national examination.
