A section of leaders in Baringo County is calling for the establishment of a campus of Kabarnet University in Mogotio Sub-County.
Kisanana MCA Jacob Cheboywo emphasised that Mogotio has ample land and a supportive community ready to back the project through public participation.
Speaking in Kapnyangale, he said it will spur development and create opportunities for the local population.
“The establishment of a university branch in Mogotio will open up the area economically and provide employment opportunities for our people,” said Cheboywo. “We have enough space, and the residents are fully supportive of such a transformative initiative.”

Cheboywo also took the opportunity to urge the national government to fast-track the Affordable Housing Programme in the area, noting its potential to uplift living standards and support growth.
His sentiments were echoed by Mogotio MCA Mark Sialo, who argued that Kabarnet University should establish campuses across the county to ensure equal access to higher education.
“A university should not be confined to one location,” said Sialo. “We need satellite campuses in areas like Mogotio to ensure all regions benefit from the institution.”
Emining MCA Purity Jepkemoi Tallam also backed the proposal, highlighting the positive impact the university would have on education accessibility.
“Many of our students are unable to pursue higher education due to distance and financial constraints. A campus in Mogotio will give them a chance to learn closer to home,” said Tallam.
Kabarnet University, the first public university in Baringo County, is set to open its doors in Kabarnet town this September, admitting its inaugural cohort of students. The institution is expected to serve as a key academic and innovation hub in the North Rift region.
