Leaders have called for joint efforts to protect the girl child in efforts to curb early marriages and unplanned pregnancies.

Speaking at Got Kwer during the official opening of the Assistant County commissioner’s office, Nyanza Regional Commissioner Magu Mutindika urged parents and locals to embrace education by protecting young girls and allowing them to attend schools to achieve their academic goals.

Mutindika pleaded with men within the area not to admire them as wife materials and lovers but to encourage and support them through education.

“We are proud of our girls especially those who sat 2021 KCPE examinations. They performed well and still need support from everyone to be able to achieve their dreams. I urge you to allow them remain focused on their studies and parents should ensure they join secondary schools to further their education,” Said Mutindika.

His sentiments were also echoed by Migori County Commissioner Meru Mwangi who warned Boda-boda riders against defiling and engaging underage girls in illicit love affairs.

Earlier speaking during the official launch of the ongoing nationwide Boda-boda re-registration at Migori County’s Huduma Center, Mwangi urged the riders to handle their clients as they would to their sisters and daughters and to ensure they only transport them to the right places.

“Today I am pleading with you not to engage young girls in illicit love affairs in future if you are caught with the same mistake prepare to face the full force of the law. We love our children and our priority as the government is to see them accomplish their academic goals for the development of the society and the national,” Mwangi warned.

On his side Suna West Member of Parliament Hon. Peter Masara called on teachers to continue working together with parents in nurturing and guiding the children especially those who have completed studies at various levels of education.

He called on teachers to assist parents in monitoring and nurturing young children to ensure they instill good morals in the learners, noting that their protection will greatly determine the future.

Masara who was speaking at Got Kwer  during the official commissioning of the areas’ ACC offices fully funded by the NG-CDF noted that it is important to continue reminding the candidates that they are of young age and are learners who have the opportunity to determine their future by keeping focus on their studies.

“Let all education stakeholders work together towards protecting the future of this nation through protection of our children especially those within the school going age. Education is a key determinant in shaping of life and profession,” said Masara.

He noted that his efforts towards improving the education sector is aimed at ensuring that all children from within the constituency are accorded equal opportunity to access and attend schools.

“I want to assure our children that as long as I remain the MP for this region then they should not worry and be sure of my support towards their academics through scholarships and bursaries.

“But I want to encourage parents to embrace  and register their children in our local schools,” he added.

He reiterated that the NG-CDF’s input in improving the infrastructure of schools within the constituency allows learners to access equal opportunities as those in other regions.

“My major focus is to ensure we have our school meeting equal standards like other national schools,” he concluded.
