Lack of key infrastructures affect learning at Sititi school in Narok

Sititi Comprehensive School is grappling with infrastructural challenges that have severely affected learning, prompting parents and school leadership to appeal for urgent government intervention.

The school, located in Trans Mara in Narok County has been operating under strained conditions due to a lack of key infrastructure, including classrooms, a laboratory, a library, and sufficient sanitation facilities.

These challenges have raised serious concerns over the safety and well-being of both students and teachers.

Speaking to the press, School Head teacher Kennedy Tome admitted that the school is overwhelmed by its growing student population, which has far exceeded the available facilities.

“We are in a dire situation,” said Tome. “The number of students continues to rise, but we do not have enough classrooms to accommodate them. We have written several proposals requesting the construction of additional classrooms, but we are still waiting for any form of response.”

He further pointed out that the absence of essential facilities such as a science laboratory, library, and latrines is compromising the quality of education and the health of learners.

“The lack of proper latrines is a serious health hazard. It puts both teachers and students at great risk,” he added.

Tome also raised the alarm over ongoing attempts to grab school land, a situation he says has fueled disputes and disrupted learning.

“Land grabbing cases have caused constant tension. These disputes are not just legal battles — they interfere with school programs and create an unstable environment for our learners,” he said.

Frustrated by the lack of action, parents are now calling on both the county and national governments to intervene immediately.

“We’ve raised these issues on several platforms, but nothing has been done,” said Mary Ntimama, a concerned parent. “Our children deserve better. Education should be prioritised, not neglected.”

Another parent, Hellen Kirui, echoed similar sentiments.

“We are appealing to the authorities to come to our aid. We cannot allow these challenges to derail our children’s future,” Kirui said.

As the school continues to navigate these obstacles, both parents and school administration remain hopeful that their pleas will prompt the urgent response needed to restore a conducive learning environment.
