The learning environment in literacy centres in Mombasa County is not conducive due to a lack of essential learning facilities, Education News has reliably established.
Speaking to Education News from Mombasa town recently, Mombasa County Director of Adult Education, Franklin Karanja, said that all adult education stakeholders should therefore take immediate measures to improve facilities in the Literacy centres in the region.
Additionally, he further revealed that the move would equally enhance effective teaching and learning in the Literacy centres in the county.
The County Director of Adult Education, however, blamed adult education stakeholders and local political leaders for failing to provide the necessary learning facilities in the Literacy centres.
However, Karanja stated that the lack of necessary learning facilities discouraged adult education learners in the area from attending their daily lessons at the Literacy centres.
He urged the adult education stakeholders in the county to cooperate fully by ensuring that they provide adequate infrastructure in the Literacy centres to enhance education levels in the region.
At the same time, he urged the government to allocate adequate funds for infrastructural development in the Literacy Centres.
“This measure will encourage adult education learners in the region to attend their daily lessons in large numbers,” noted Karanja.

The county director of Adult Education, however, revealed that although the enrollment of adult education learners had increased in the area, there was still room for improvement.
He also appealed to teachers in the county to dedicate more time to their work to make the adult education programmes a success.
Meanwhile, Karanja has stated that the Education Ministry has registered a total of 336 adult education learners in the region to sit for the 2025 KCSE as Private candidates.
He further advised the private candidates in the region to study harder to post an impressive performance, arguing that there is no shortcut to passing the final national examinations.
